Characterized by a non-linear, experimental and poetic way of storytelling her work take inspiration from literature, theatre, early cinema, rituals and legends but also from everyday events. The split screen or multiple projections of her videos show simultaneously the parallel worlds of different times and spaces within the same story; posing questions about the passages from one state to another, between life and death, fiction and reality.

Born 1961 in Stockholm,  Helen Broms Sandberg  lives and works in Rome. She graduated in 1989 from the Royal University College of Fine Arts in Stockholm. Her videos and installations has been shown in art institutions like Moderna Museet, Stockholm; Museo di Castel dell’Ovo, Naples; The Royal Academy, Stockholm; Museo d’Arte Moderna, Bologna; the National Museum, Stockholm; Museum Moderner Kunst, Vienna; Turku Art Museum, Finland; Göteborgs Konstmuseum, Gothenburg;  NIFCA, Helsinki. She is the recipient of the H.M. King Gustav VI Adolf foundation for Swedish Culture. She is also  the author of the book Folds in collaboration with Joseph Brodsky and the editor of Birgit Broms: Bilder, Samtal och Texter (with Jonna Ulin),  Ragnar Sandberg Dagboksanteckningar 1945-1972 (with Anders Kreuger) and the film As I See You, on portrait and identification with Birgit Broms, Erland Josephson, Benny Andersson, Ingmar Bergman, Inger Alfvén and Gösta Ekman.
